Our grateful dead story

This illustration pairs with the short story Our Grateful Dead Story by Kevin Mandel. The story follows five teenagers at a long ago Grateful Dead concert, in what is really a kind of literary coming of age tale. Kevin and I worked hard on finding the right balance of color, tie-dye, and how to best represent the giddy, vulgar, and even violent expressions of youth. This piece was published in Midsummer Dream House magazine, June 2024 and was a Semi-finalist for American Short Fiction's 2024 Halifax Ranch Prize.
